In telecommunications, an internal call refers to a call placed between two extensions within the same company. By contrast, an external call is a call placed with a number outside of the organization. In the past, internal calls required dialing an extension. Companies that use VoIP software can place internal calls without extensions. In a contact center, internal calls are sometimes called agent-to-agent calls.
