2023 Five9 Summer Intern Spotlight Series: Allyson Wu

This summer Five9 welcomed 14 new interns to bring exciting fresh perspectives and ideas. They have contributed to their teams in valuable ways while gaining knowledge and incredible insights from leadership. Our internship program provides just the right mix of challenges and excitement. We encourage our interns to develop new skills and connect them with leaders across multiple departments to maximize their opportunity to learn. We can’t wait to see what our interns accomplish for the rest of the summer!
To recognize our 2023 intern class, we are excited to highlight a few of them for National Intern Day on July 27th and shed some light on their experiences thus far. Welcome, Allyson Wu, a project coordinator intern eager to share more about her summer experience and how Five9 has helped support her career journey!
Allyson recently graduated from University of California, Davis with a double major in Economics and Design. She knew Five9 was a great company to join early on during the interview process. Her exceptional recruiting experience left a positive impression and made her eager to join the team! She says, “While most interviews are nerve-wracking, my initial screen with Five9 felt more like a genuine conversation rather than a formal interview.” She felt that the recruiter expressed an interest in not only understanding her background and experience, but also demonstrated a care for her career prospects and where she could be an asset in Five9. The care and interest taken during her interview process enhanced her confidence that Five9 would have the culture and environment she was searching for in a workplace.
As a project coordinator intern for the Workforce Optimization (WFO) team, Allyson plays a crucial role in developing essential processes and protocols for project managers to effectively manage their customers. Project managers in the Professional Services (PS) department typically handle multiple projects simultaneously. Allyson streamlines their processes and provides visual representations of data using a tool called Monday.com. Her work enables project managers to improve workflow organization and helps them gain insights into where customers need support during implementation. She plays a direct role in Five9’s mission to meet customers’ unique business needs!
Allyson believes that working at Five9 has inspired her to enthusiastically embark on her career journey. Our Intern Speaker Series provides interns with the opportunity to meet with members of leadership to receive valuable advice and learn about their experiences. Allyson feels that all the advice she received from these events has left a lasting impression that she will carry with her for the rest of her career. She says, “Their personal stories and the lessons they shared have pushed me to cultivate a strong work ethic and develop a distinctive personal brand that will continue to benefit me for years to come.”
The community we build within Five9 is something we value and take extra care to nurture. Allyson feels she fits naturally into our community and appreciates our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), which are designed to cultivate a rich community and create a space for stronger representation in our organization. She is a strong advocate for women and Asian Americans in tech and feels safe and understood knowing that Five9 prioritizes embracing her unique background.
Her favorite part of the program is the endless opportunities we offer to learn and grow. From meeting with leaders in the industry to intern hangouts, she has been able to establish meaningful connections and relationships with people across several departments. She is excited to work at an innovative company like Five9 and witness how we grow in today’s ever-evolving realm of technology.
